Workshop on gender sensitive multi-sectoral nutrition held in Cox’s Bazar

A two-day workshop on gender sensitive multi-sectoral nutrition has been completed.

The event was organized by Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon in collaboration with Nutrition International AMAN project. Bangladesh National Nutrition Council Director General Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir was the chief guest on the occasion. Special guests were Sayka Siraj, Country Director of Nutrition International, and Chittagong Divisional Deputy Director Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed. Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohiuddin Mohammad Alamgir presided over the function.

In the meeting, various aspects of gender-sensitive, multi-sector based annual nutrition work-plan development of various upazila government offices in Cox’s Bazar district were discussed for the next fiscal year 2023-24.

The chief guest of the program said that a pregnant mother needs nutrition from 5-6 months. The ultimate goal of food security is to improve nutritional status. Diversification in agriculture in a region also leads to diversity in the daily diet. Which plays an important role in the development of women’s empowerment.

Nutrition Council Deputy Director Dr. Nusrat Jahan Mithen Presented the report in the workshop. A special report was presented by Farhana Hafiz.

Later, they presented it after a hands-on exercise in preparing the Gender Responsive Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Action Plan.

Officials of Fisheries, Animal Resources, Family Planning, Women Affairs, Public Health, and Agriculture Departments of Ramu, Maheshkhali, Pekua, and Teknaf upazilas were present on the concluding day of the workshop. District level officers also participated in this workshop.
